Tarah Carnahan is the Executive Director and Co-founder of Treetops Collective, a cross-cultural movement based out of Grand Rapids that invests in New American women leaders and works to make our region more welcoming to new neighbors. She is deeply passionate about the intersections of culture, community and creativity. She believes that robust communities begin with the celebration of strengths, and a commitment to create room at the table to see those gifts utilized for the benefit of all.
After completing her BA in Business and Sociology, Tarah moved to Paraguay and developed a sewing project focused on savings and entrepreneurship for women living in Asuncion’s garbage dump community. This inspired her to pursue a Masters of Sustainable Business upon her return.
Soon after her first child was born, she befriended a Congolese neighbor, finding home for the first time in West Michigan because of the welcome and friendship of a New American. She has been finding ways to welcome new neighbors for the last 10 years. She was Grand Rapids 40 under 40 class of 2022 and during the past 5 years has held positions as a Fellow at Praxis, Hello Neighbor, and with the Stand Together Foundation.
