Alex Benda is originally from a large military family in Michigan and holds degrees in International Business and Entrepreneurship from the University of Michigan- Flint.
Before joining the Grand Rapids Chamber, he co-founded a nationally recognized branding agency and worked across industries ranging from higher education to community development.
As Economic Growth Business Consultant, Alex works directly with small businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs to connect them with the resources, relationships, and guidance they need to thrive. This role is deeply personal to him, it reflects his passion for local business, creative problem-solving, and the belief that economic growth means more people living better lives.
Alex specializes in small business engagement, placemaking, and helping business owners navigate complex systems and opportunities. He’s particularly excited about creating intentional pathways for underrepresented entrepreneurs and building programs that respond to real-world barriers.
His role helps the Chamber move forward by making sure no business gets left behind, whether that’s through access to capital, connections to city resources, or simply someone who will show up and ask, “What do you need next?”
