What’s Happening
- The first weekend with an open Acrisure Amphitheater was electric! Feedback we have received from local businesses, public safety officials, residents and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive.
- The parking apocalypse did not materialize 😊
- The Grand Rapids City Commission unanimously passed the FY27 budget. The Chamber submitted comments that praised investments including public safety, and cost savings and service improvement in the DASH reroute.
- We also urged the Commission to urgently begin to find ways to reduce the expected deficits in coming years as revenue increases fall short of expected spending.
- The Chamber hosted a Grand Rapids Commission candidate forum with the three candidates for the open Ward 1 and two candidates for Ward 2. Topics included public safety, public-private partnerships, areas to sustain/improve, and governmental dysfunction’s impact on community. The candidates attending were:
- The Grand Rapids Public Safety Committee received a briefing on crime statistics that shows continued YTD improvements in most categories. They were also told that the report on K9 policies will not be available until later this year.
