Grand Rapids Chamber Announces Nate Henschel as Director of Government AffairsThe Grand Rapids Chamber announces Nate Henschel as their new Director of Government Affairs.  

Nate joins a well-respected team and will report to Andy Johnston, Vice President of Government Affairs. He will primarily focus on the issue areas of Taxation, Regulatory Affairs, Education and Workforce Development.  

Nate has an extensive background in government and advocacy work at the state and federal level. Prior to joining the chamber, Nate worked for Congressman Fred Upton (MI-06) in Southwest Michigan as his District Representative and Community Liaison. He also previously worked for former State Senator Margaret O’Brien as her Legislative Director in Lansing. In both roles, Nate worked to cut through government red tape, solve local issues through meaningful legislation, and connect communities with their government.  

“We’re thrilled to have Nate join our team and look forward to welcoming him to the chamber community,” said Johnston. “Nate brings with him a wealth of public policy and political knowledge and he will be a valuable asset for our members.”

 Nate lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, Betsey, and their daughter, Olivia.

  • Born and raised in Southwest Michigan and has resided in Grand Rapids for over 5 years 
  • Proud graduate of the University of Michigan 
  • Enjoys camping, spending time on Lake Michigan and having quality time with his family.
