Ryan Schmidt is a Partner at Indigo Design + Development, a Grand Rapids-based firm he co-owns with his brother Greg that sits at the intersection of architectural design, real estate development, and construction. Indigo’s work is grounded in a simple idea that good buildings come from integrating thoughtful design into the development process from day one – not as an afterthought.
Ryan brings over twenty-five years of experience across the full real estate spectrum from development through construction management and asset management. His background spans market rate, affordable, and mixed-income residential development as well as mixed-use and commercial projects. Before co-founding Indigo, he served as Vice President of Real Estate Development at ICCF Community Homes in Grand Rapids.
Today his focus is on urban infill and residential development across West and Mid-Michigan. Current and near-term projects include Heritage Court, a mixed-use new construction development in the historic Heritage Hill neighborhood of Grand Rapids; a 56-unit new construction townhome community breaking ground in the City of Wyoming in late 2026; a 54-unit multifamily development in the Village of Lake Odessa anticipated to break ground in early 2027; and Millbrook of Marshall, a large new apartment community being co-developed in the City of Marshall. Indigo is also in the process of acquiring and rehabbing an office building in Grand Rapids’ Eastown neighborhood as its new home base.
