GR Chamber's Diversity and Talent Summit Unveils New Format

The Grand Rapids Chamber’s 2022 Diversity and Talent Summit: Rise Together expands in 2022 to feature a full day of impactful speakers and independent work groups. Formerly a half day event, participants have expressed an interest in taking a more in-depth approach. The new format will dedicate time to discuss practical solutions and action steps, broadening their impact to implementing effective diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in organizations large and small.

Informational presentations will feature keynote speakers on the topics of igniting, implementing, and innovating for effective DEI in the morning session. The afternoon session consists of DEI work groups and keynotes, where attendees can focus in on concrete solutions and determine action steps for their team.

In 2022, the Summit has also added an inaugural Summit Chair, Christina Keller, President of Cascade Engineering. Keller says she is “eager to participate in this important initiative”. As Summit Chair, Keller will convene the summit and cast a vision for the CEO’s role in shaping great inclusion. She will join a panel of executive business leaders to discuss the importance of DEI in our current business environment.

Other executive leaders, such as Steve Huizinga of Allied Mechanical will join Keller on a panel to share how they ignite, implement and innovate DEI.

During the afternoon session, Renee Cummings, Data Scientist and AI Expert, will talk about the effective, unbiased use of big data and artificial intelligence in business talent attraction. Work groups, the heart of the new format, will follow. All attendees who sign up for the full-day format will have the opportunity to work together with others at a similar stage of their DEI journey to explore practical steps for advancing their DEI efforts.
