Exergy Announces Movement to Bring Diesel Racing to West Michigan

Are you captivated by the thrill of side-by-side 200+ MPH drag races, along with the economic boost such events can bring to a region? If so, Exergy Performance is excited to announce an initiative that brings the exhilaration of diesel racing to West Michigan. We’re working hard to establish the region as a hub for this adrenaline-pumping sport, which promises to attract fans, businesses, and sponsors who share a passion for racing.

At Exergy, we’ve made a name for ourselves in the industry through our advancements in diesel fuel injection systems. Over the past 18 years, we have earned a reputation as a leader in the diesel industry, pioneering innovations that have made diesel vehicles cleaner, more efficient, and higher performing than ever before. With these advancements in hand, we are aiming to make diesel racing a staple in West Michigan’s motorsports scene. By leveraging our expertise, we want to showcase the technological progress diesel engines have made, breaking the outdated stereotypes that associate diesel fuel with pollution and inefficiency.

In recent years, diesel racing has experienced a renaissance. These events highlight not only the raw power of diesel vehicles but also the advanced technology behind them. Diesel racing has become faster, cleaner, and more competitive than ever before, making every race an action-packed experience. Whether it’s a new record being broken or someone pushing to set one, each event is filled with excitement.

Diesel drag races feature a wide variety of vehicles, from lightly modified daily drivers to purpose-built, record-shattering machines. Racers participate in classes that range from index races for street-legal vehicles to pro classes where purpose-built vehicles reach blistering speeds. In the top tiers, trap speeds of nearly 200 MPH, or even faster, in the 1/8th mile are not uncommon.

But racing is just one part of the excitement. Thousands of spectators attend diesel events, not only to watch the high-speed races but also to participate in other activities. “Show and Shine” events allow diesel enthusiasts to showcase their vehicles, while vendors set up exhibits where fans can learn more about the latest in diesel technology. Many events also include a dyno competition, where competitors and spectators alike can see how much power their vehicles are truly putting to the pavement.

On average, diesel racing events attract between 2,500 and 10,000 spectators, with over 100 racers competing for the win. The economic impact of these events is significant. Local hotels often sell out, and restaurants are packed with fans, racers, and crews. In 2024, the Ultimate Callout Challenge in Indianapolis saw over 15,000 spectators and nearly 200 racers. The influx of visitors provides a major boost to local businesses, helping the region thrive.

At Exergy Performance, we are working closely with the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, the premier diesel drag racing sanctioning body, as well as local business partners, to turn this vision into a reality for West Michigan. We are currently in the planning stages and are collaborating with community members to ensure this event is a major success.
