Leadership and DEI Programs Get Boost With New Chamber Hires

The Chamber’s Talent & Inclusion Department Expanded to Drive Programs  

The Grand Rapids Chamber is a hub for professional development, hosting 30+ leadership cohorts, programs, forums, and workshops annually. The Director of Talent position was split into two roles and filled by Rick Treur, Director of Leadership Programs, and Sommer Jabbar, Director of Inclusion and Belonging 

“These two leaders give the Chamber a better structure for continued growth and deeper impact,” said Rodney Savage, Vice President of Talent & Inclusion for the Grand Rapids Chamber. “Rick and Sommer come to us with the experience and insights to drive the region’s premier professional development and DEI programs.”

 

Rick Treur, Director of Leadership Programs 

Rick has spent his professional life in public service, community engagement, and entertainment.  He now oversees the Chamber’s leadership programs, including Leadership Grand Rapids, to uplift the next generation of leaders and make Grand Rapids a great place to live, work, and play.  

Prior to joining the Chamber, Rick worked with Congressmen Paul Henry, Vern Ehlers, and Peter Meijer. Rick’s work in their offices allowed him to engage with community leaders and organizations and help constituents resolve problems with the federal government. For ten years, he served at Calvin University in the Advancement Division as Director of the Annual Fund and Alumni Director.

Sommer Jabbar, Director of Inclusion and Belonging
Sommer has served the community for the last 15 years in various roles such as teacher, training manager, director of education, and DEI consultant. She will oversee the Chamber’s affinity groups and cutting-edge diversity, equity, and inclusion training, like the Institute for Healing Racism.  

She recently graduated with her doctorate in organizational change and leadership, which she will utilize to create a positive and ever-lasting impact in her community through her new role at the Grand Rapids Chamber.
