Andres J. Ortiz-Estevez

International Student Services Coordinator
Grand Valley State University

About Me

As an experienced coordinator in International Student Services at Grand Valley State University, I provide essential support to accepted international students. My role involves offering guidance and assistance on immigration, cultural and academic adjustment, safety, legal matters, integration, and other practical issues. I specialize in providing immigration advice, including work authorization for F1 and J1 students. With proficiency in planning, implementing, and assessing international student orientation programs, I ensure a smooth transition for incoming students.

Drawing on my 11+ years of professional experience as a bilingual case manager in non-profit organizations in East and West Michigan, I bring a diverse multicultural approach to my role. I have a solid background in direct clinical and management services, enhanced by extensive professional development. My leadership and conflict resolution experience in various settings equip me to effectively advocate for international students across campus and connect them with appropriate resources.

Since joining the Padnos International Center in June 2023, I have taken on responsibilities such as conducting immigration advising and document processing as both an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 program and a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 program. Additionally, I coordinate events and activities to foster student engagement and serve as an advisor for the International Student Organization (Uniting Nations).
