Jen Plante Johnson is a writer, film producer and creative consultant dedicated to empowering individuals to share their unique narratives. Since 2020, Jen has been immersed in the production of a feature documentary, OUR GUYS, the story of The South Shore Mothers Group. This project illuminates the extraordinary lives of five Massachusetts mothers, pioneers in parenting, who courageously raised children with Down syndrome and autism during an era of limited community support. The documentary not only celebrates fifty years of friendship and advocacy but also delves into the poignant process of end-of-life planning as these women navigate securing ongoing care for their adult children once they are gone. Jen sees this project as a way to bring attention to the unique struggles of caregivers while shining a light on the contributions and resilience of these brave and unassuming senior women.
In addition to her documentary work, Jen has provided support on a variety of narrative film projects in the areas of creative development, story-enhancement and production fundraising. As a regular contributor to Cherrypicks.com, Jen passionately advocates for disabilities inclusion and LGBTQ+ representation in film and television, sharing stories that bridge understanding and raise awareness.
Prior to living in Michigan, Jen resided in Gothenburg, Sweden, where she focused on international co-productions in television and film. She is currently producing a new podcast titled “Gear Up: Adventures In Parenting” for the ODC Network’s Preschools, offering helpful strategies for raising healthy, happy children, and discovering the joy in parenting.
Jen hopes to exemplify her values of faith, family, diversity, compassion, and creativity in both her personal and professional life. Her professional mission is to help create a more inclusive world, one story at a time.
Jen is a proud founding member of Pax Coworking Studio in Holland. She lives in Douglas with her wife and eight year old son.
