Laura Hopson is the President and CEO of EM Services, LLC. As a minority business owner, she is
excited to embrace the true meaning of minority business development. Her focus not only is to help her
customers streamline their current procurement processes and platforms but to help build a
community network of businesses, so they can collaborate on new business ventures and opportunities.
In 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023, Laura was recognized by receiving the Diverse Business Leader award from
Michigan’s Corp! Magazine. She has also been a recipient of the Shape Supplier of the Year Award. Most
recently, Laura received the Woman Owned Business of the Year 2022 Epic Award from the Grand
Rapids Chamber of Commerce.
Laura brings to the Michigan business community over 30 years of expertise stretching across
manufacturing, sales, marketing, and management. Professionally, her focus on transforming brands,
marketing, and people, has resulted in many great accomplishments over her career. Her background
includes various positions at Herman Miller, VanerumStelter, Steelcase and Kentwood Office Furniture.
For the last 15 years, she has been an active member on a number of West Michigan community
and professional boards. While on many of these organizational boards she has assumed a variety
of leadership roles and responsibilities. Laura is an active member of the University of Michigan Health
West Hospital Board. As a senior member of the board, Laura serves as Chair of the Executive and
Physician Compensation Committee. She has also supported other health-oriented initiatives through her
leadership as Board Chair for the American Heart Association Heart Walk and a Board Member of the
American Diabetes Association. Laura is also heavily involved in the Grand Rapids Chamber of
Commerce. She chairs the Mosaic Business Collective, is an active member of the Minority
Contractors Association, and a Board Member for Construction Allies in Action.
Laura is also an active member of two National business certifying agencies, the National Minority
Business Development Council, and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. As a leader
within these networks, Laura has served as a mentor and business coach to other minority, and woman
owned businesses.
Laura’s passions extend beyond business and healthcare into education. She is heavily involved with
Grand Valley State University. She frequently is selected as a guest speaker for students enrolled in the
business school, and recently been appointed to the Grand Valley State University Supply Chain Board
as well.
After graduating from high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laura obtained her bachelor’s degree in
industrial engineering from the University of Michigan and her Master of Business Administration
in Marketing and Finance from Western Michigan University.
