As a first-generation immigrant from Mexico, Omar is committed to creating an inclusive economy. Serving as the Senior VP of Investor and Corporate Relations, Omar drives resource development and fosters growth by cultivating influential relationships within the Chamber and in the Community.
In just six years, Omar has left a significant imprint on the Chamber industry. His exceptional performance has earned him a designation as a Certified Chamber of Commerce Executive from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
On a national scale, Omar chairs the ACCE’s Membership Division and, as a board member, helps steer strategic policy decisions impacting Chambers beyond Grand Rapids. Before joining the Chamber, Omar spent 16 years as a banker/lender for a regional bank. This tenure equipped him with valuable insights into SEDI and VSB businesses, enabling him to influence the Chamber’s strategies on new initiatives to cater to a diverse business community.
Omar also spearheads the Chamber’s Welcome Work with New Americans through the Kent County Welcome Plan, championing strategies to unlock the economic potential of immigrants and refugees.
Beyond his professional obligations, Omar’s service extends to numerous local organizations. He contributes to the Kent County Convention and Arena Authority Community Inclusion Group, the City of Grand Rapids Officer Compensation Board, and many others, including the Pine Rest Board and the Grand Rapids Promise Zone Authority Board. His service to his community is a testament to his dedication to fostering an inclusive and thriving economic environment.
